Leisure Arts, one of my long time favorite providers of knitting patterns and the publisher of my Knit Dress Dishcloths Knitting Patterns, sent me a copy of their new publication, Cozy Fashion Accents. I was pleased to find 10 sets that each include a headband, boot cuffs, and a scarf to match. The final pages of all Leisure Arts knitting publications continue to have wonderful general instructions for the new knitter.
I decided to start with the headband since I always have trouble with my ears in the cold weather. Walking the dog several times a day means that I need to keep my ears covered every time I go outside. I tried the Hurdle stitch headband on page 18. I had plenty of skeins of worsted weight yarn to choose from in my stash. The pattern calls for 364 yards of worsted weight yarn for the entire set. The skein I used has 200 yards so I'll probably shorter the scarf to less than the 57 inches in the pattern.
Using Size 9-16 inch circular needles, I cast on to knit in the round as instructed. I'm so pleased that within a 3 hours, I had a completed headband. The width of this headband is about 3 1/2 inches and it stretched nicely when I put it on.
These will be great for holiday gifts and I will probably knit a few more for myself.
I'm looking forward to knitting the Slip Stitch set next.
These cold weather accessories are great for using up those single skeins of yarn that I couldn't resist because the color was so appealing.
